Aerial view of The Doctor's House at night

Good
questions

Travellers from all over the world have asked us these. Here are the honest answers, so you know TDH is right for you.

How do I get there?+

We are about 500m from Galle Road and the Walgama bus stop, which connects to just about anywhere on the south coast. Tuk tuks are easy to find: roughly LKR 300 to Matara, where buses leave for all of Sri Lanka, and about LKR 500 to Mirissa. Matara train station is 3km away.

From Colombo, take the highway bus to Matara. They run all day from 6am to 8:30pm from Pettah, Kaduwela or Maharagama, and the trip is about two and a half hours. From the airport there are only two direct highway buses a day, so a taxi or tuk tuk to Colombo and the bus from there is often easier.

Not in a rush? The train from Colombo to Matara is cheaper, slower, and a lot of fun.

Can you help with transfers?+

Yes. We work with a driver named Mahesh who is reliable and professional. Message him on WhatsApp on +94 77 226 5500 and give him a bit of notice, especially in peak season.

Can I surf in Madiha?+

Yes. There are three breaks within a short walk of The Doctor's House and the waves are great.

Are the waves good for beginners?+

Not really. They are reef breaks best suited to intermediate surfers. Mirissa and SK Town are a short tuk tuk ride away and much friendlier for beginners.

Can I do yoga there?+

We don't run yoga ourselves, but there are plenty of great classes nearby. Ask any of the staff and you'll be doing downward dog in no time.

What time is check-in and check-out?+

Check-in is 2pm to 10pm and check-out is by 10am. Arriving outside those hours? Message us on WhatsApp and we'll sort it. We're happy to store bags and surfboards.

Can I book a table?+

The garden restaurant and party nights are walk-in, no reservations. The Upstairs takes bookings when it's open for the season.

Can I bring kids? Is there a dress code?+

Kids are very welcome and get in free on party nights. No dress code, come as you are.

Is there parking?+

On-site parking is for hotel guests. Restaurant guests can park on the street out front.

Do I need a ticket for party nights?+

No advance tickets. Entry is LKR 2,000 at the door on Wednesday (6pm to midnight) and Saturday (7pm to midnight) nights, kids free. Special events may differ and the monthly calendar on Instagram says so.

Entry is non-refundable and can't be used against food or drinks.
